They probably have a skeleton key. See if you can change the lock.
Assuming you have good inventory/cash controls, the next place to look at is the the person(s) who service/have access to it. Try marking some money in the cash box.
I have run machines like this in the past and unless you have developed a good relationship with the location (and its employees) you will get robbed. As an aside, I no longer run these machines on my vending route. Actually I have one in a teachers room in a school.
Here some ways they could be robbing you:
#1 – They tilt the machine and shake it, candy will fall.
#2 – Someone has a skinny arm and a pencil (or pen) and are knocking snacks down.
#3 – If you don’t load the machines right extras will fall if you “wiggle” the knob.
#4 – Bent coat hangers are being used to “fish out” loose snack.
The best you can do is make sure you are loading the machines correctly. But the bottom-line is that you should NEVER leave a machine someplace you are being stolen from, pull the machine immediately – it is costing you money to leave the machine there.
